Most of the designing processes of almost all is done through computers, CAD and alike software. You must first have a mastery of the controls of these software to be able to design using them.
One of the alternatives for those who has no time on studying tedious software is using Google Sketch up. It is a sort of 3-D modeling software easy to use even for those architect wannabes.
